GVS helps to facilitate an educational visit of Russian tutors to UK Colleges

While the aim of GVS is to produce high-quality digital products for the FE sector here in the UK, as a company we also seek to encourage experience exchange with educators across international organisations, to share our knowledge and understanding of the sector and to forge and strengthen links with these establishments. This past week was a great opportunity to do just that, as we brought 15 Russian tutors over 2000 miles from Russia to the UK.

Back in October 2017 we were approached by Academia, our parent company in Russia, to deliver and host an educational trip to a handful of UK colleges, for 15 Russian college tutors from the Korolev College for Building and Construction (the WorldSkills Inter-regional Centre of Competence) just outside Moscow.

The aim of the trip was to provide visiting teaching staff with a better understanding of vocational training and education within the UK construction sector in the UK, focusing on:

  • British FE sector and how colleges work with the awarding and governmental bodies, including Ofsted
  • Full time, part time, apprenticeship schemes
  • College funding bodies and schemes
  • College ILT/eLearning/Digital/Blended Learning departments
  • Look around the colleges to see how their construction departments operate, including examples of classrooms and workshops

Due to the existing relationships that GVS has with several leading UK colleges, we were well placed to facilitate and plan this visit. We worked hard to produce an agenda that was engaging and informative, and one that would clearly demonstrate the way in which UK colleges are putting technology and digital strategy at the forefront of their teaching.

Four colleges were approached and agreed to take part in the visit:

  • Hopwood Hall College
  • Leeds College of Building
  • Heart of Worcestershire College
  • Northampton College

Each college saw the intrinsic value in passing on their sector and industry based knowledge.

The visit proved to be a huge success for everyone; the colleges enjoyed hosting the group and imparting their knowledge, while the tutors were very enthusiastic to learn about the education system in the UK. A very positive week was had by all who took part, and we are proud to have hosted and delivered an outstanding educational tour for our Russian visitors.
